Explore Nova Scotia, Eastern Canada’s Culture Capitol

Nova Scotia is located on the East coast of Canada, and is home to Halifax, the Maritimes central hub. Nova Scotia (Latin for New Scotland) is amazingly like it’s patron country. It has icy seas, rolling green hills, rocky cliffs, and some of the friendliest people around.

There are countless things to do here. Whether it’s driving from town to town, exploring the tartan villages, seeing the wide variety of doll-like houses overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, to experiencing the downtown hustle and bustle of metro Halifax. Nova Scotia is a superb destination to travel any time of the year. With warm sunny summers, and mild winters, it’s easy to understand why Halifax was voted one of the most walkable cities in North America.

If you’re wanting to experience the wilderness of Nova Scotia, make your way North to Cape Breton Island to experience the National Parks, lush hiking trails, and some of the best kayaking found in the East coast. Northern Nova Scotia is one of the best places to luck out and kayak with a pod of whales. Cape Breton Island is one of the best places to spend a weekend during the summer as well, there are countless campgrounds to keep the whole family entertained. Most of which have some great beaches, running water and showers, along with playgrounds for the kids.

If the outdoors isn’t your cup of tea, head to downtown Halifax to walk around and shop til you drop. Rest your feet at one of the dozens of cafe’s or pubs along Argyle Street and Spring Garden Road. There are countless historical sites located within walking distance of downtown Halifax. Including Citadel Hill and the Maritimes Museum. Both of which are great places to learn about the History of Halifax. It is after all one of the oldest cities in North America, and there is much to learn about the first settlers of the area.

Nova Scotia is the perfect place for a weekend getaway with the family. There’s something for everyone. From the downtown city lights, to the beautiful landscapes and scenery. Of all the things Nova Scotia has to offer, the people are by far the greatest thing this eastern province has to offer. Everything you decide to do in Nova Scotia will be greeted with a warm smile and a friendly conversation. Which in my books is what makes this province one of my favourite places to be in Canada.
