Okay so you are traveling and you are craving for fresh food. That’s right, you are on vacation in Vancouver and you want to be visiting exciting places and yet you have this urge to just satisfy yourself with fresh produce. So…you go to….downtown Vancouver! The widest variety of fresh food you can find is right there at the Public Market in Granville Island. Get on the water taxi or a mini ferry from the main city and enjoy the picturesque scenery as you glide on water to your destination.
Be prepared to feast your eyes and abdomen and be amazed by the wonderful colours of God’s creations – from fruits to vegetables to flowers and even pasta! While you’re at it, get fresh gourmet produce from the public market and make yourself and your family a picnic out of it. Need a drink to wash down your food? Try the Virgin Mojito; get two of them because you will definitely return for another one. Bring your picnic food out to the wharf’s outdoor seating and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing meal as you admire the boats sailing by.
Because the Public Market is diverse, you can get many other stuff here; aside from food. Shop for your souvenirs at the Public Market as you can find one-of-a-kind gifts to bring home right here; crafted by the talented artists and crafters. Also look out for cool sunglasses, funky hats, unique jewelry and out-of-the-box handicrafts.
Entertain yourself with the street performers – jugglers, musicians, magicians and many more – which you can find basking away throughout the island. Take a walk around and you will find revamped empty sheds now used as fascinating studios, theatrical plays, musical stages, enchanting exhibitions and so on. You can even learn a thing or two from the creative culture that Granville Island flourishes.
Beware if you are bringing along your kids because there is a “Kids only Market” section within the market place itself dedicated just for your kids. You may have difficulty dragging them out of the section but hey, since it’s a vacation, do give them some treats.
To add to the fun, there are also a waterpark and playground for you and your children to let loose. Start the day early to avoid the crowds so you can wander around this shopping paradise peacefully in the morning before the tourist groups and locals fill up the place from noon onwards. Granville Island is a must-see and a must-be-there location; a really unique spot catering to everyone.
