Vancouver Sightseeing – Enjoy a Day Trip on BC Ferries Between Vancouver and Victoria BC
Looking for a great way to spend a day during your vacation to Vancouver BC? I highly recommend taking a day trip over to Victoria on BC Ferries. You will experience stunning West Coast scenery while sailing across the Georgia Strait between Vancouver BC and Vancouver Island.
The route between the Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay ferry terminals will present you with many breathtaking views. You will sail through Active Pass, a very narrow passage between Galiano and Mayne Island. Be sure to bring some warm clothing so that you can comfortably stroll around the outside decks, taking in the invigorating freshness and scents of the ocean breeze and the magnificent vistas that change along the way. Seagulls dip and glide overhead, following the large ferries for miles. Sometimes one can even spot a pod of Orca whales surfacing near the ferry.
The large ferries have ample comfortable seating with large windows to watch the passing views from if you prefer to stay inside. There is a cafeteria and snack bar serving an assortment of hot or cold meals and beverages.
Getting There
It will take you just over 90 minutes each way on the Ferry to cross between the Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay Terminals. You may take your car onto the ferry, however, it is much less expensive to travel as foot passengers. If you are vacationing without a car or prefer to save money by going as a foot passenger you can easily access the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal via public transit. From Vancouver ride the Canada Line SkyTrain to Bridgeport Station and catch the #620 bus from bay #3 to the ferry terminal.
Your SkyTrain ticket is also valid on the bus. If you begin your day trip reasonably early you will have enough time to catch #70 BC Transit express bus on other side and take a trip into downtown Victoria. You will have to pay a separate fare for this bus as it is not part of the Vancouver transit system. Once there you can go for a stroll and visit some of the many attractions and sights near the Victoria’s inner harbour including the Parliament buildings and the spectacular Empress Hotel. If the weather is nice and you have time, stroll several blocks south of the Parliament buildings into Beacon Hill Park. It is a beautiful park with incredible views across the Juan De Fuca Strait to the mountains on the Olympic Peninsula in the United States. Be forewarned that if you spend a few hours in Victoria you will very likely want to return again.
There are 8 or more sailings each day from 7 am until 9 pm.
